Camping

Troop 240 does camping throughout the year.  Camping provides a unique opportunity to take on the outdoors, learn life and survival skills all while being in a safe and teaching environment.  It also helps scouts to flex their skills in cooking and practicing the outdoor code.

All scouts are educated on the 10 essentials for Scouting and the correct gear to take with them depending on the outing.

Each of our Patrols has a patrol box full of cooking gear and equipment along with a stove box containing up to date propane stoves for the scouts to use. Camping as a patrol helps also teach reliance and cooperation. We also do dutch oven cooking over an open fire.

For a list of the scouting 10 essentials please check out this site - https://scoutingmagazine.org/2013/02/the-10-essentials/

Cooking

Cooking is a essential part of being in the outdoors. From small personal stoves to boil water for rehydrating food pouches to propane stoves to full dutch oven cooking, there are many ways to eat while in the outdoors.  Our Troop also likes a bit of healthy competition with cooking competitions between each scout!  Your scout may turn into a camp cooking gourmet!
